Big trucks without brakes | Runaway truck ramp

A runaway truck ramp is a traffic device that enables vehicles which are having braking problems to safely stop. It is typically a long, sand- or gravel-filled lane connected to a steep downhill grade section of a main road, and is designed to accommodate large trucks or buses. The ramp allows a moving vehicle’s kinetic energy to be dissipated gradually in a controlled and relatively harmless way, helping the operator to stop the truck safely.

In this video we will also see how the trucks are removed from this sand ramp. The simplest method is by pulling trucks off the sand using other large and powerful equipment such as tractors or excavators.

But the most professional, which we see in this video is the use of a crane specially designed for such a thing. Thus the truck is lifted from the sand and moved on asphalt.
