German Technology – Demolish of a nuclear plant cooling tower using an excavator

In Mülheim-Kärlich, Germany, a remote-controlled digger nibbles the top of a cooling tower before it is demolished. The tower, 162 meters high, could not be destroyed for security reasons. A digger was responsible for reducing its size by nibbling the top small end by small end. Once 80 meters, it could be destroyed without explosive, several slots were dug in the structure so that it collapses under its own weight. The Mülheim-Kärlich Nuclear Power Plant has been shut down since 1988.
