Almost unbelievable, but true. The Mercedes Actros truck loaded with 32tones descends at walking pace without the brake being applied.
The built-in Turbo Retarder clutch VIAB (also called TRK) from Voith makes it possible.
The braking torque is transmitted wear-free with the help of oil. VIAB becomes a hydrodynamic retarder.
Technically no problem, but it takes a lot of courage to go backwards into “nothing” and then only to see the sky.
