Skyscraper window washer still uses traditional and risky hanging method

This video shows the latest known window washer that still uses the traditional hanging method to wash the windows of New York’s skyscrapers.

Charlie, who cleans the eleventh floor of Manhattan’s Chanin Building, wears a wide leather belt around his waist that is attached to two straps that are attached to the sides of the window frames. With just the use of this accessory, Carlie gets suspended while washing the windows outside.

In all sixty floors this worker has to clean using this same method.

The Chanin building still has sliding windows that slide up and down, unlike most buildings in that region, which have replaced them with modern versions.

The union says he is the last window washer in town that still uses this method.
