Time means money, and this applies to construction sites as well. Instead of wasting a lot of man power and hours of work just to get the formwork from under a concrete slab, they decided to take a risk.
But in the end the risk paid off, and after the last metal pillar was taken off, all the wooden planks fall down nice and slow without damaging the concrete in any way.
