26.3.2024, Baltimore, USA. Danish shipping company Maersk chartered the nearly 300-meter-long Singaporean-flagged container ship Dali, which crashed into one pillar of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday morning. The four-lane bridge, 2.5 kilometers long, subsequently collapsed. The ship’s crew and captains did not report any injuries, but there were 8 people on the bridge at the time of the collision, two were rescued and six are still being searched for. The container ship Dali, which left the port of Baltimore and headed for Colombo, Sri Lanka, was not steered by the ship’s crew, but by local captains who are specially employed to get such a large ship out of the port without any problems. Maersk is one of the world’s largest container shipping companies, owning more than 700 vessels worldwide.
