On Thursday afternoon near San Jose, California, a collision occurred involving a Tesla Cybertruck and another vehicle, marking the first reported incident of this kind on a public road. The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash on Skyline Boulevard around 2:05 p.m., attributing it to a Toyota Corolla that veered off the road, struck a dirt embankment, returned to the road, crossed the double-yellow line, and collided with the oncoming Cybertruck.
Law enforcement reported no serious injuries resulting from the incident, and there was no indication that the Tesla was operating in autonomous mode at the time of the collision. Although the severity of the impact remains unclear, images shared on Reddit depict the deployment of the Cybertruck’s driver-side curtain airbag, significant damage to the driver’s side body panels, and extensive front-end damage to the Corolla. A witness who encountered the aftermath described the condition of the Toyota as “ghastly.”
A dashcam video, posted on YouTube the following morning, provides additional insight into the chaotic scene of the crash. Tesla initiated customer deliveries of the Cybertruck in late November, with the vehicle’s base price starting at $60,990 and the option to customize it up to approximately $100,000. The fully equipped tri-motor “Cyberbeast” variant, as per Tesla’s specifications, weighs up to 6843 pounds.
